Abstract:
This research is cross-sectional descriptive research. The objective is to study the quality of life of students in dormitories and to study the factors that relate to quality of life of students who live in Chulalongkorn university's dormitory. The quality of life divided into 4 dimensions : academic life, social/activity life, dormitory life, and relationships. The samples consist of 403 students, 163 males and 240 females in the second semester academic year 2008. Questionnaire is used to collect personal information and the data about the dormitory, their academic life and the students' quality of life in 4 aspects. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics Independence t - test, One - way ANOVA and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis.
The results showed that global quality of life score of students living in the dormitory of Chulalongkorn University is high. When the quality of life was considered in dimensions, relationship and dormitory-related dimension of quality of life were also high. However, social/activities and academic dimension were at average level. From Multiple Linear Regression analysis, factors related to the quality of life at p<0.05 were as following: 1) for academic dimension, factors were the cumulative grade point average(GPAX) and the care and attention of the dormitory staff; 2) for social/activity dimension, medical service in time of illness; 3) for dormitory-related dimension, the care and attention of dormitory staff, female sex, rent fee per semester and the environment in the aspect of light in the room; 4) for relationships dimension, the factor was being female. The only factor related to global quality of life was the care and attention of the dormitory staff.
