Abstract:
The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to study the effect of the diarrhea preventive behavior promoting program for child caregivers in day cares. Subjects were composed of 66 caregivers working in day cares. Thirty two subjects were in the experimental group, and 24 subjects were in the control group. The experimental group received the diarrhea preventive behavior promoting program which consisted of a small group discussion, and experimental and application. This program aimed to increase the perceived benefits and perceived self-efficacy, to decrease the perceived barriers, and to create positive affects toward the diarrhea preventive behavior. The diarrhea preventive behavior of caregivers were measured twice, before and after receiving the program, by the diarrhea preventive behavior of caregivers questionnaire developed by the researcher. Data were analyzed by ANCOVA with pre-test scores as covariate variable. It was found that caregivers receiving the diarrhea preventive behavior promoting program had higher scores on diarrhea preventive behavior then those of the caregivers receiving routine diarrhea preventive behavior promoting, at the level of .05.
