Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to study mental health and factors prevailing to the student mental health of Sirirattanathorn Secondary School Bangkok. The research design was cross-sectional descriptive study. The sample consisted of 633 upper secondary students year 2008 who studying in Sirirattanathorn school. The instruments were demographic data, the 10 items Thai self-esteem questionnaires from Rosenberg Self-esteem inventories and the 54-items Thai mental health indicator questionnaires. The data were analyzed by SPSS for Windows. Statistics utilized consisted of percentage, mean, and standard deviation, chi-square, One-way ANOVA
The major findings were as followed:
48.1% of upper secondary students, the majority, had fair mental health. 33.3% of the students had good mental health and 18.6% of the students had poor mental health. The factors related mental health was education level, number of sibling, playing music, and health, grief event, mental health problems, and attitude forward smoking, family relationships, and student's
self - esteem.
In conclusions, this research revealed that the majority of upper secondary students had fair mental health. However about one-fifth of the subjects had poor mental health that should be further evaluated, follow up. Factors and findings related mental health should be promoted. The poor mental health students should be cared and reassured of good mental health. The results of this research could be utilized as a guideline for administrators to manage and promote good mental health students.
