Abstract:
To compare self-esteem of elderly receiving therapeutic art plus self-esteem promoting information and that of elderly receiving self-esteem promoting information alone. The subjects of this study were elderly in Bangkae Home. The 30 elderly were chosen by purposive selection according to the inclusion criteria. They were divided into the experimental group and the control group, each with 15 subjects. The experimental group received therapeutic art according to the program of 1 hours per session, two times per week for 5 weeks, altogether 10 times. The data collection instruments consisted of demographic data about the elderly, The Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), The Rozenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and the therapeutic art program. The ANCOVA and Repeated ANOVA were ultilized for data analysis. The findings of this study revealed that, after the experimental : the post-tests self-esteem scores for the experimental group were significantly higher than the pre-test scores (P<0.001), and the experimental group had statistically significantly higher self-esteem scores than the control group (P<0.01). In conclusion, therapeutic art could be used for promoting self-esteem in the elderly.
