Effects using different types of positive reinforcement in game-based learning via upon mathematics achievement of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder second grade students
Abstract:
The purposes of this study were 1) to study the effects of different types of positive reinforcement in game-based learning via web upon mathematics learning achievement of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder second grade students and 2) to study the behavior of students while playing game by teachers and parents observation. The samples were, purposefully selected, 24 ADHD second grade students of Kasetsart University Laboratory School Center for educational research and development. They were randomly assigned into two groups in a matched pair design; 12 students were in each group. The first group studied in game-based learning via web using social reinforcement, and the second group studied in game-based learning via web using token economy reinforcement. The research instruments were online web-based games, lesson plans, learning achievement test, and observation form. Data were analyzed by using the descriptive statistics and the t-test statistics. The major findings were as follows: 1. There was found no difference at .05 level of significant between social reinforcement and token economy reinforcement in game-based learning via web upon mathematics learning achievement of ADHD students. 2. The observe of teachers and parents about ADHD students behavior when playing online web-based games found that more than50% of ADHD students had no restless, overactive, distractible, difficulty awaiting before game instruction had been completed, and impulsive. More than 80% of ADHD students had no tempers and outburst when lost tasks or scores; and they showed attention during played game. All ADHD students did not leave seat and stop playing game; they enjoyed playing and completed game with no rest.
