The correlation between self-esteem and parenting styles of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder attending child psychiatric outpatient unit of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation of self-esteem and parenting styles of children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder attending child psychiatric outpatient unit of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. 102 ADHD children completed self-report questionnaires, parenting style questionnaires and self-esteem assessment. Data were analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation, one way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis. The result of this study revealed that 80.4% children with ADHD attending Child Psychiatric outpatient unit of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital have high and moderate-high level of self-esteem and 62.7% children are gotten democracy parenting styles by children with ADHD that gotten different parenting styles have significant different self-esteem in 0.05. Democracy parenting style ADHD children have different self-esteem from Rejection and Authoritarian parenting style but it is not different from ADHD children that receive Permissive parenting style. Self-esteem predicting factors are relationship between father and mother and parenting style that predict is 26.9%.
