Abstract:
The objectives of this qualitative research are to study the Chinese language usage in daily life, and Chinese language transmission of Chinese community in China town. The research employs in-depth interviews of ten families which must consist of three generations. The results are shown as this following: 1. There are two kinds of the Chinese language usage in daily life: the usage for communication inside family and the usage for communication outside family which are intended and unintended communication. Each family speaks original language when communicates inside family. The sentence substances involve daily life and occupational communication. 2. Chinese language usage depends on each individual's skills. Only Chinese language is used within the first generation. Most families use only Chinese language for communication between the first generation and the second generation. While others use both Chinese and Thai language. 3. Chinese language is transmitted through direct and indirect communications behaviors. Each family employs different methods to transmit the Chinese language. For instance, speaking Chinese to set on example, teaching family members to speak Chinese, forcing them to speak Chinese in family communication, exposing Chinese media and emphasizing the important of Chinese language.
