Abstract:
The study of "The role of suburban shopping center : a case study of nothern Bangkok Metropolitan development" is aimed to at study the development of 19 shopping centers in northern Bangkok, it also includes problems and impacts of shopping centers in Rangsit area, and proposes suggestions due to problems caused by suburban shopping center. Resulting from the 210 questionnaires by the method of accidental sampling in the 19 shopping centers, Joseph de Chiara's Shopping Center Hierarchy Ranking, and the shopping centers' physical appearance, the analysis showed that each shopping center has different in goods, size, customers characteristics, and service area. Thus, it can be condluded the level of shopping center that 1. There are 2 neighborhood shopping centers with a service area of 1 kilometers. 2. There are 9 community shopping centers with a service area of 3 kilometers. 3. There are 8 regional shopping centers with a service area of 6 kilometers. The suburban shopping centers, moreover, not only provide goods but also serve as a recreational area for suburban population. However, they causes certain problems and impacts on land use, traffic, economics, environment. Finally, this study proposes some suggestions to solve the problem caused by the establishment of suburban shopping centers in study area.
