Abstract:
This research was aimed to compare the staff nurses' job satisfaction before and after using modified management by objective concept in nursing practice under the hypothesis that the modified management by objective concept should improve job satisfaction of the staff nurses. The subjects selected by volunteer sampling, were composed of 21 staff nurses in Surgical Department, Somdejprapinkloa Hospital. Three tools were used to collect data: namely the training program of modified management by objective concept in nursing practice for staff nurses, the manual of using modified management by objective concept in nursing practice for staff nurses and head nurses, and staff nurse's satisfaction questionnaire. The tested for content validity and internal reliability of these tools were shown at .9251. The study used one group pre-test post-test design. After pre-test evaluation of job satisfaction, the staff nurses had to present the activities that they intended to perform to accomplish the department's objectives, then prepared their working contract and presented the contracts to head nurses. The implementation of the working contract was under the suggestion and consultation of the head nurses. The evaluation of the progress of implementation between the staff nurses and the head nurses was performed twice, first at the halfway and second at the end of the three-week working contract period. Post-test evaluation of staff nurses' job satisfaction with the same questionnaire was also conducted at the end of the study. The result of the study revealed that the staff nurses' job satisfaction after using modified management by objective concept in nursing practice was significantly higher than that before using modified management by objective concept in nursing practice at p<.01 using paired t-test. The result therefore supports the hypothesis of the study.
