Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to determine professional nurses competencies in primary care unit by using EDFR tecnique. The 30 samples consisted of the experts and administrators in The Ministry of Public Health and professional nurses working in PCU. The data were analyzed by using content analysis, mean, median, mode and quatile range. Major findings were as follows : There were 6 essential competencies of the professional nurse working in PCU. 1. Working with the community competencies, including good relationship and well adaptation with various groups and the community, understanding of the community needs, ways of life, culture and beliefs. Endurance to barriers, team work skills and intersectoral coordination. 2. Leadership competencies included creating the vision, responsiveness, decision-making, truthfulness for work, transforming and creative thinking, negotiating, creating of health values as well as the good model in conserving and performing according to those values. 3. Community health development competencies, including community diagnosis, planning implementation solving and evaluating community health program. Providing of health promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, home visit, health education and counseling. 4. Administrative competencies, including planing, organizing, monitoring, evaluating and risk management in PCU. Management of human resources, materials, bidgets and information. 5. Academic and research competencies, including conceptual competencies in various discipline, ability to apply and integrate those discipline appropriately for working in the community. Research and transfering of health knowledge and technology to the target group, problem-solving and tasks development skill. 6. Laws and moral competencies, including knowledge and understanding of professional and civil laws, working by holding the laws, community norms, and professional ethics as well as promoting and conserving of the clients rights.
