Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to study the effects of the visual arts teaching by integrating the field trip management upon learning achievements of lower secondary students. The sample group were 48 students, in the lower secondary level of Watchaimongkol School under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, who took a visual arts course in the second semester of academic year 2004. The research instruments which constructed by the researcher were 1) a lesson plan of visual arts teaching by integrating the field trip management which included: the learner preparation process, the field trip process, the study of original works of art process, the conclusion and application of knowledge 2) a set of pre-test and post-test upon learning achievements 3) a student behavioral observation form 4) a production evaluation form, and 5) a set of student questionnaire. The obtained data were analyzed by arithmetic means, standard deviation, percentage and t-test. The findings form the visual arts teaching by integrating the field trip management has revealed that: learning achievements of the after learning are than the before learning at .05 level of statistical significance. Further more, it was found that the field trip could encourage students to extend their knowledge and understanding about visual arts. The viewing of the original works of art could urge students' curiosity such as exploring and contemplating, making sketches, taking notes, sharing opinions and discussing. In the knowledge application process, findings revealed that most students produced their art work by employing both imitation and modification. They adapted the composition structures, subjects, elements and techniques from the original works of art.
