Abstract:
This research had four objectives-(1) to survey and rank information needed to prepare student-teachers for the information technology society, (2) to train them, (3) to construct the learning process model, and (4) to test the model. The constructed questionnaires consisted of information relates to communicative skills, systematic thinking, information searching skills, note-taking ability, memorizing ability concentration, self-health care. English language, and computer usage skill, were distributed to 1200 student - teacher throughout the country. The 1103 returned and completed questionnaires were analyzed. The survey results besides teaching skills were reported from top ranking as follows: (1) communicative skills (2) systematic thinking (3) memorizing ability (4) note-taking ability (5) computer usage skills (6) English language (7) self-health care (8) concentration (9) public appearance (10) information searching skills The training package was designed. It was consisted of exercise book, lecture note, various training activities of 7 information-groups-(1) skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, thinking, memorizing, and note taking, (2) systematic thinking (3) information searching from Thai and English newspapers, (4) public appearance, (5) concentration, (6) self-healthcare, (7) technology and computer usage. The training was conducted to two groups of third year student-teachers of the Faculty of Education. Chulalongkorn University and Rajapat Institute of Rachaburi Province. The training process lasted 48 hours during January-February, 1997. The training results indicated significant improvement of both groups. The training process was synthesized into 7 sub-models and tested by reactions of instructors from both institutions. The seven sub-models were reported as follows: 1. The model to develop skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, thinking, memorizing and note-taking was the training for skills in grasping schemata from those, ability to appear in public, concentration and memory skills practice. 2. The model to develop systematic thinking was the training to identify steps in thinking, ability in summarizing schemata from writing, reading, listening (3) the model to develop information and news extracted form both English and Thai newspapers was the training for skimming and picking up important ideas, comprehensive reading as well as taking-note. Pictures from newspaper also helped. 4. The model to develop ability for public appearing was the application of the debating technique and role playing, the opportunity to speak in front of class was also a good technique. 5. The model to develop skills in concentration was the practice supervision of experts. 6. The model to develop self-health care was the immediate feedback of physical check-up results. 7 The model to develop technology and computer skills was the practice with computer in real or simulated situations
