Abstract:
To study the evolution of coporate universities, to investigate corporate university models in Thailand and to set strategies for establishing corporate universities in Thailand. The research methodology were: content analysis for studying evolution of corporate universities, EDFR with 25 experts for investigate corporate university models in Thailand. And meeting of 20 experts for verification of model and setting strategies for establishing corporate universities in Thailand. It was found that corporate universities were developed for many reasons. Which are core characteristics of corporate universities included: 1) being policy-centralized educational and training units with a professional program, 2) reinforcing organization growth and expansion, 3) being the support basis organizational restructure, 4) providing business leadership and competitive advantage, 5) being a change agent, 6) being a learning organization and promoting lifelong learning, 7) developing the human resources of the organization to meet business and organizational needs, and 8) using an organization philosophy, 9) promoting and promulgating values and corporate culture as the principle of the organization's education. The components of the corporate university model in Thailand consist of: governance, vision, funding, organization, students, curriculum and instruction, partnership, evaluation, communication, educational technology, establishment, accreditation and recognition. The study shows that mostly components are fairly feasible and most likely achievable. Excepting, managing governance body like traditional university and mobilizing fund from the stock market were moderately feasible. And the least feasible was dividing department of faculty as traditional university. The results of the research showed that the main strategic areas for establishing corporate universities in Thailand were: 1) general management 2) academic management and 3) government mechanisms for higher education management. The important tactics were: 1) establishment with the present law in contractual partnership institutions, affiliation institutions, traditional universities, specific centers in traditional universities and specialized institutions for public organization, 2) establishing stand alone institutions which wait for new laws, 3) using Thai Vocational Qualification (TVQ) as a tool for accreditation, evaluation and curriculum development 4) motivating and supporting from the government and 5) setting up the network from corporate and related organizations. This study recommend that corporate and organization ought to use this model and strategies as a tool for organizational development.
