Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to study of sensitivity to painting styles of undergraduate students in fine arts program of Rajabhat Institutes in southern region. Population were 25 senior students in fine arts program at Rajabhat Institute Nakhornsrithammarat and those 43 students of Rajabhat Institute Yala who were in the same program. The population were in their first semester of 2000 educational year. The instrument were a set of five exemplar paintings for measuring students' sensitivity to painting styles, structured interview for identifying characteristics that ascribed to painting styles and a set of questionnaires for studying population's personal background, aesthetic and attitude towards arts. The data was analyzed by means of frequency, percentage, arithmetic means and standard deviation. The research findings revealed that the means value of sensitivity to painting styles was low (x=2.10). Moreover, the findings indicated that characteristics most identify the differences of painting styles between artists was texture that has been affected by the variety of brush stroke. The important finding in population's personal background, aesthetic and attitude towards arts indicated that there were number of student entered this program without personal preference and aptitude. Most of students expressed their attitude towards arts and indication towards aesthetic state in between low to moderate level
