Abstract:
This study focused on potential development of female dolescent leaders, extension of breast self-examination to their peers and the results of the program. The target group was composed of 55 adolescent female students, 15-17 years old from Thachana school; 10 of them were leaders and the other 45 were the leaders8 peers. Data were collected by questionnaires to assess knowledge of breast cancer and breast self- xamination, confidence and self - efficacy in breast self-examination, and expectation for the results in breast self-examination. The data were analyzed by percentage, means, median, standard deviation and sample paired t-test and datacategorization by content analysis. The project8 s main activity structure was based on group participation among school teachers, students and their parents, by developing the potential of the students leaders and their peers with an emphasis on participatory learning and knowledgesharing, training the skills and ensuring self-efficacy in breast self-examination among the leaders and their peers
had significantly increased their knowledge of breast cancer and breast (p < 0.001, p < 0.001), self - efficacy for breast self- examination (p < 0s.e0l5f-, e pxa m< in0a.0ti5o)n, expectation for the results of breast self- examination (p < 0.05, p < 0.05), and skills in breast self- examination (p < 0.001, p < 0.001). The leader group had significantly increased in their skills of breast self-examination, higher than their peers, before and after program (p < 0.001, p < 0.05). The suggestion for further benefits was that participatory process of the leader group through potential development of adolescent women in breast self- examination should be encouraged.
