Abstract:
Physics has long been known to students as one of the most difficult subjects. Students find physics incomprehensible due to several reasons. In this work, we developed a web-based lesson as an alternative way for students to learn physics in which we focus our work on ultrasonics in medical science applications, particularly on ultrasound imaging. The lesson includes the history, basic concepts on acoustics and its characteristics, methods for ultrasound generation, and lastly imaging concepts. To determine the effectiveness of the lesson, 40 student samples are drawn from the first-year undergraduate nursing students 2006 academic year. A pre-test and a post-test on ultrasonic knowledge in medical science are provided to the students before they start using the created lesson and after they finish the lesson, respectively. In addition, an attitude test is carried out on the student after the post-test. A statistical analysis of pre-test and post-test score shows the improvement at the significant level of 0.01 and the outcome of the attitude test indicates that the students are highly satisfied and motivated by the lesson.
