Abstract:
This study aimed to study expectations and recognitions in quality of working life of supporting personnel, Walailak University. The analysis of these expectations and recognitions in quality of working life were classified by personal determinants: age, working years, salary, education and working position. In order to conduct this research, a self-administrated questionnaire was distributed to 221 respondents. The result of the research revealed that:
On the whole employees had expectation and recognition in the quality of working life in high degree. In case of each determinant, there was the highest level in the expectation in the organization pride, safe and healthy working conditions. On the other hand, there was a moderate degree of recognition of opportunity for career path and security, and adequate and fair compensation. For other determinants, the expectation and recognition were in high degree.
Employees who had a different personal determinant did not have a different expectation except in the view of opportunity for developing and using human capacity based on education level. For the recognition side, employees recognized the quality of working life of adequate and fair compensation differently based on age and salary. Regarding to the opportunity for developing and using human capacity, there was different recognition depending on education and working position. There was also different recognition of opportunity for career path and security based on salary and working position. In case of working relationships, the recognition differed from workingyears and working position. For employee rights, there was a different recognition of different working years and salary. In terms of organization pride, the recognition differed from the difference of working position. The result of comparison between the expectation and the recognition in the quality of working life in every determinant was different.
Based upon the comparison between the expectation and the recognition, the study found that the improvement in adequate and fair compensation, the career path management system and the adjustment of employment pattern enhanced employees working performance. Furthermore, the adjustment of working scope such as life balance, organization culture development, and interpersonal relationships should be considered in order to make the employees recognize the good quality of working life in the future.
