Abstract:
The objective to this study is to investigate the behavior in saving and factors that
are related with the saving of members of The Savings & Credit Co-operative of Surat Thani
Teacher Ltd. A questionnaire is used to obtain the information from 384 members of The Savings
& Credit Co-operative of Surat Thani Teacher Ltd.
The study showed that the members of the group that had most saving were
married women with a Bachelors Degree, aged between 41-50 years old. They have been
members for more than 10 years, and have had work experience for more than 20 years. It was
Found that usually 2 people in their families were members of this organization. Most of them
would deposit 1,000 Baht/month, and had less than 10,000 Baht in saving.
The reasons for their savings were full confidence in reputation, public image and
stability of the Co-operative. When the co-operative had improved its services, the members
would deposit more. The reason that some members did not deposit money with the Cooperative
was because they did not have enough money to save. Most of members are interested
in interest rate of their saving, public relation and news from documents or leaflets, and special
additional services of the Co-operative such as direct deduction from their salaries and annual vocation trip for members. The members had suggested that the Co-operative should
improve the compensation for the members .
The result of this study found that age of members, numbers of members in
their families, did not correlate with their savings. However, their full confidence is found to be
correlated with their saving.
It is also revealed that the compensation, public relation and services show
some
correlation with saving.
The members of the Co-operative wanted the co-operative to have more
reputation, public image, stability and more interesting compensation with high interest rate,
convenience and quick services.
