Abstract:
This research aimed to study the incidence of catheter associated urinary tract
infection in hospitalized patients at Burapha University Hospital and to determine the related factors.
The research findings indicate that the incidence of catheter associated urinary
tract infection in hospitalized patients is 7.7%. When studying the risk factors for urinary tract infection from catheterization, we found that elderly, chronic renal failure, metastatic solid tumor, longer length of stay in hospital, ICU admission including endotracheal intubation ≥ 96 hours, on urinary catheter over 14 days and the presence of ulcers around the anus associated with an increased the incidence of catheter associated urinary tract infections. Furthermore, this study showed higher morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients who had the urinary tract infections due to urinary catheter.
