Learning management in content and language integrated learning to develop Thai reading skills and Thai cultural understanding for Thai as a foreign language learner
Abstract:
The purposes of this research were (1) to develop Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) lesson plans to enhance Thai reading skills and understanding of Thai culture among learners of Thai as a foreign language, and (2) to examine learners Thai reading skills and Thai cultural understanding after the CLIL-based instruction. The participants were 13 foreign students enrolled in the Thai 1 Year (Level 1) program at the Language Institute, Chiang Mai University, in Academic Year 2024. They were selected through purposive sampling. Research instruments comprised seven CLIL-based lesson plans and a test measuring Thai reading skills and Thai cultural understanding. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, percentage, and t-test statistics. The results showed that the CLIL-based lesson plans demonstrated high content validity, with an average Index of ItemObjective Congruence (IOC) of 0.96. Moreover, the participants Thai reading skills and understanding of Thai culture after the CLIL-based instruction were significantly higher than before the instruction at the .05 level
