Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to: 1) compare the reading comprehension
ability in Thai language of Prathomsuksa 3 students before and after receiving instruction using
the CIRC technique, and 2) compare the reading comprehension ability of Prathomsuksa 3
students who engaged in cooperative learning management using the CIRC technique with
the criteria of 70 percent of the total score. The sample group consisted of 30 Prathomsuksa 3
students at Nakhon Sawan Rajabhat University Demonstration School under the Ministry of
Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, selected by multi-stage random sampling.
The research instruments included 6 lesson plans on cooperative learning management
using the CIRC technique, which were rated at the highest level of appropriateness
(x̅ = 4.94, S.D. = 0.17), and a reading comprehension ability test consisting of 30 items,
with IOC indexes ranging from 0.67 to 1.00, difficulty levels between 0.23 to 0.80,
discrimination values between 0.20 to 0.64, and a reliability coefficient of 0.81. Data were
analyzed using mean, standard deviation, dependent t-test and one-sample t-test.
The research findings were as follows:
1. The Prathomsuksa 3 students who participated in the cooperative learning
management using the CIRC technique had a mean score of reading comprehension
ability in Thai language before learning of 16.33, with a standard deviation of 5.79, and
a mean score after learning of 22.50, with a standard deviation of 3.04. A comparing of
reading comprehension ability in the Thai language before and after learning showed that
the ability after learning was statistically higher than before learning at the significant
at the .05 level.
2. The Prathomsuksa 3 students who participated in the cooperative learning
management using the CIRC technique had a mean score of reading comprehension
ability in the Thai language after learning of 22.50, with a standard deviation of 3.04.
When comparing this score with the criteria of 70 percent of the total score, it was
found that the Prathomsuksa 3 students reading comprehension ability was statistically
significant than the criteria at the .05 level.
