Abstract:
This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the Quality of Work Life of Garbage Collectors in Local Administrative Organization (LAO), Chiang Mai Province, and to investigate the factors associated with their quality of life in the LAO Chiang Mai Province. The study sample consisted of 385 municipal garbage Collectors in LAO, Chiang Mai Province. Data were collected by using the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF Thai version (WHOQOL-BREF-THAI) between February 2025 and June 2025. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Chi-Square test, and Fishers exact test. The results found that the majority of the respondents were male (97.9%), aged between 41 - 50 years (39.7%), and married (55.8%). Most had completed lower secondary education (37.1%) and had an average monthly income between 10,001 - 15,000 baht (63.9%). However, 73.8% reported that their income was insufficient. In terms of health, most had no chronic diseases (67.8%), did not smoke (44.9%), and consumed alcoholic beverages (57.4%). Regarding work conditions, the majority were employed by Subdistrict municipalities (64.7%), had work experience of seven years or more (40.0%), worked six hours or more per day (58.7%), and worked five days per week (56.9%). The overall quality of life was found to be at a moderate level, with an average score of 94.2. When considering the four dimensions of quality of life - physical health, psychological, social relationships, and environment, it was found that the psychological dimension had a good level of quality of life, with an average score of 23.5. The remaining three dimensions - physical health, social relationships, and environmental factors were at a moderate level, with average scores of 25.6, 10.5, and 27.0, respectively. The factors associated with the quality of life: levels of solid waste collectors in LAO, Chiang Mai Province had the highest level of education, monthly income, income sufficiency, presence of chronic diseases, smoking status, years of work experience, and number of working days per week which had a statistically significant relationship with quality of life (p-value < 0.05) Therefore, the findings of this study can be used to better understand the factors that influence the quality of life of Garbage Collectors and can be beneficial for LAO in formulating effective and appropriate policies to support these workers in the future.
