The use of asynchronous communication to improve work productivity : the case of Thai design agency during COVID pandemic
Abstract:
Due to the result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Thailand has recently witnessed one of the most rapid changes in the history of work. How to communicate effectively when Working From Home, has become a major challenge for Thai designers. This also presents Thailand with an opportunity to increase the growth and effectiveness of its creative industry, especially its design agencies, through learning how to properly address this issue. The shifting of work communication to online platforms has affected the work performance of designers in Thai design. The need for there to be appropriate work-from-home communication practices in this new normal life is strongly indicated, which has prompted this research study of using asynchronous communication for improving the work productivity of designers in Thai design agencies. Asynchronous Communication is one of the most successful communication strategies in remote working that can be utilised in the design processes for Thai design agencies. It does however need to be understood better by the parties that undertake it so that it can be undertaken more effectively. As a result, the aim of this thesis is to create a guideline that enables Thai design agencies to effectively utilise asynchronous communication for improving their work productivity. This study used qualitative research of data collection, including document analysis (Documentary Research) and a semi-structured interview with eight participants at Thai design agencies in Thailand. The people who were specifically chosen are involved in the design process as follows: Designers, Project Managers, and Silent Designers. The result of the findings made through primary and secondary research demonstrates that it has been used to create a guideline on using asynchronous communication as part of the designer process to improve designers work productivity and enable them to remain part of a more sustainable workforce.
