Effect of process parameter and gate size on gate freeze time in injection molding by using simulation software
Abstract:
Gate freeze time is played important role in
injection molding cycle time. It indicates that when should be the
end of the packing time that affect part quality. If packing phase
not hold until the gate freeze. The part weight tends to light and
may be sink.
This work has studied the effect of melt temperature, mold
temperature and gate size on gate freeze time. Two type of
polymer were used acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and
polypropylene (PP). The Moldex3D program was used to find out
the gate freeze time. The loop cooling channel used on both side of
molding. The injection parameter such as stroke time, setting
injection pressure, packing time and packing pressure are the
same setting for all experiment.
The result showed that the huge different gate freeze time with
the different material. Similarly, gate thickness was effect to gate
solidification time. The temperature also affects to gate freeze time
especially melt temperature, whereas gate wideness and mold
temperature had no significant effect on gate freeze time. This
experiment could help the designer to understand about these
factors was effect to gate freeze time.
