Abstract:
Social media plays an increasingly important role in people's daily lives. Social
media platforms are used to share data, which generates a lot of data and has several applications. The study was based on reviews of tourist attractions, accommodations, and restaurants published from 2018 to 2022 on Tripadvisor, Wongnai, and Pantip websites, which covered the time before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Text mining process, natural language processing, and sentiment analysis with the Sequence model were applied. Positive, neutral, and negative levels of sentiment analysis were distinguished. According to the study, the number of tourist attractions, accommodations, and restaurants on Tripadvisor, Wongnai and Pantip tended to decline during the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, the number of reviews were also trending down.
A study from the Tripadvisor found that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the
number of tourist attractions, accommodation, and restaurants decreased by 60.30%, 69.39%, and 68.33%, respectively. The number of reviews for tourist attractions, accommodation, and restaurants also decreased by 75.45%, 67.00%, and 82.11%, respectively. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an increase in negative reviews. The number of positive reviews, on the other hand, has decreased over this time. Both the number of places (tourist attractions, accommodation, and restaurants) and the number of reviews tended to fall throughout the epidemic, according to the Wongnai and Pantip analysis, which was similar with the Tripadvisor study. In order to prevent the disease from spreading, the government announced a various of measures, including travel restrictions across provinces, lockdowns, and social distancing. Travel and tourism were severely impacted as a result. Businesses involved in tourism, espectially accommodations and restaurants, were closed. For this reason, it resulted in the outbreak of the COVID-19 that the reviewing and sharing experiences about tourist attractions, accommodations, and restaurants on the Tripadvisor, Wongnai and Pantip websites tends to decline.
