Assessment of spatial potential for biogas production from animal dung: a comparison of secondary data and field data collection
Abstract:
This study evaluates the biogas production potential from animal manure in Nakhon Phanom Province, Thailand, by comparing secondary data with field data collection in 2021. The methodology involved gathering secondary data from 12 district livestock offices and conducting comprehensive field surveys across 99 sub-districts. The preliminary assessment based on secondary data indicated a biogas production potential of 9,452,671.52 m³/year (197,844,414.86 MJ/year). However, field data revealed a significantly lower potential of 2,273,526.39 m³/year (47,584,907.30 MJ/year), highlighting the necessity of field verification. The study identifies optimal locations for biogas plant construction, particularly between Pla Pak and Nong Hi sub-districts, due to their central location, distance from residential areas, and proximity to existing biomass power plants. This area could support a 150 kW biogas power plant operating 24 hours daily.
