Abstract:
This study aims to develop a phonological awareness activity guide to aid in orthography development and preliteracy education. Targeted toward linguists, orthography consultants, and community facilitators, this guide addresses the global need for unwritten languages. The guide emphasizes community engagement through participatory linguistics activities adapted from Kutsch Lojenga (2024). The activities include rhythm, initial consonant, melody, rime, final consonant, and vowel sorting. By integrating pre-literacy activities into orthography workshops, the guide seeks to enhance phonological awareness among both linguists and community participants. The paper outlines the methodology for developing the guide and proposes activities to raise phonological awareness, aiming to equip participants in limited-access communities to facilitate these activities independently.
