Abstract:
This study aimed 1) to examine desirable leadership levels of subdistrict headman and village headman in Chamni District Buriram Province; and 2) to investigate opinions and suggestions for improving the desirable leadership of subdistrict headman and village headman. This study employed a quantitative research approach. The sample included 380 residents from Chamni District, selected by using Krejcie and Morgan's sampling table. Then, the samples were proportionally distributed across villages and subdistricts and selected using simple random sampling. A questionnaire with a reliability coefficient of 0.962 was employed as the research tool. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and content analysis.
The findings revealed that:
1) the overall desirable leadership of subdistrict headman and village headman in Chamni District, Buriram Province, were rated at a high level. When analyzed by specific aspects, it was found that all were also rated at a high level which can be ranked by mean score from highest to lowest as: personality, initiative, role responsibility, interpersonal relationships, and decision-making; and 2) opinions and suggestions for improving desired leadership qualities revealed that subdistrict headman and village headman should be bold, decisive, quick, honest, transparent, accountable, and dedicated to serving the community. Additionally, they should be younger, physically healthy, possess at least a bachelor's degree, and be capable of applying technological knowledge to develop their villages or communities. Moreover, they should enhance their ability to network and seek support from external organizations to effectively address community challenges and provide assistance.
