Content analysis and scoring rubrics for BAS data index development of a chiller plant system in Thailand
Abstract:
A building automation system (BAS) was developed in the 1980s to control
air conditioning from the central control room of a building; the internet protocol (IP)
controller has been continuously expanded in 2010, leading to a payback period of
approximately 5.8 years in 1980, down to approximately under two years in 2010 due
to cheaper and more intelligent technologies. The applications of 2 primary technologies
are (1) air conditioning control system and (2) lighting control system which has the
same usage as Thailand. However, there is no precise break-even analysis in Thailand,
including improper installation guidelines and the lack of appropriate evaluation of
functionality and data pattern and standard. This research project is to analyse the
limitations and problems of building automation system (BAS) utilization for a
centralized air conditioning (AC) system using content analysis method; 12 commercial
buildings from the total (20 buildings) are systematically selected from the designed
BAS data framework which is developed from retuning process of the U.S. After that
scoring rubric is proposed to design BAS data index for developing BAS standard and
operational index in the future. The obtained index can be tested with the sample
building to increase the data quality from 75.14% to 88.61%. The newly obtained
analysis is mainly used for efficient BAS control and operations procedures to achieve
energy savings in Thailand.
