Abstract:
The purposes of this research are; (1) to study the mind in accordance with the principle of Theravada Buddhism (2) to study the body in Theravada Buddhism and (3) to study the relationship of mind and body in Theravada Buddhism. This research is the qualitative research by analysis of documents. The results of research are found that
The mind in compliance with the principle of Theravada Buddhismb is one kind of natures that know the feelings. The mind is the knower and the thing known by the mind is the feeling. When the feeling occurs, the mind will occur and when the feeling ends, the mind always ends. It consists of (1) the mind is the nature to think about the feeling (2) the thinking faculty (Mano) is the nature inducing the thought to various feelings (3) Thinking function (Manas) is the nature satisfied with the feeling (4) Heart-base (Hadaya) is the nature embracing the inside feeling (5) pandara is the nature that is bright (6) Manayatana is the nature as the origin of spiritual perception (7) Manintariya is the nature as the governor in the feeling (8) Vinnaya is the nature to know the feeling clearly (9) Vinyanakhan is the groups of nature to know the feeling clearly (10) Manovinnanatha is the state of holding the clear knowledge related to the feeling as the spiritual specification,
In Theravada Buddhism, it can be divided into two types, that is, 1} Namakaya is the collection of abstracts but in some cases, Namakaya includes all four aggregates, that is, feeling, perception, condition and consciousness or both mind and mental factors 2) Rupakaya is the collection of organs or embracement of concretes, that is, body and sometime it is called physical figure (Namarupa).
The relationship of mind and body in Theravada Buddhism is that the mind is based on creation of the imagination of the mind and materials associated with each other by relying on each other. The mind and materials exist but not to be the contents of substance or not to be the permanent by themselves. The body is the setter and the sources of expression of the mind. The body is an significance for the mind and an importance for lifestyles. When it is not in the balance of element and aggregate the mind will not exist any more . The lifestyles of human beings can not maintain the lives any more. So the body is important equal to the mind. When the body and the mind exist, the Dhamma situation that is the suffering and happiness of human beings comes up as the double, that is, the physical and mental suffering and physical and mental happiness.
