Effect of hydrofluoric acid etching time on surface roughness and shear bond strength of titanium alloy bonded with resin cement
Abstract:
Purposed: This study aim to evaluated the effects of different surface treatments on the surface roughness (Ra) and shear bond strength (SBS) of titanium alloy boned with self-adhesive resin cement Material and Methods :One hundred and fifty titanium alloy disks were prepared, each with a diameter of 6 mm and a thickness of 4 mm, and polished using a polishing machine with 100-, 400-, and 600-grit silicon carbide papers. All specimens were then randomly divided into six groups (n = 25 per group) based on surface treatment methods: control, 50-µm alumina sandblasting (50-AlO), and 9.5% hydrofluoric acid for 30 (95HF30), 60 (95HF60), 90 (95HF90), and 120 seconds (95HF120). Ra values were measured. Afterward, all specimens were randomly divided into two subgroups (n = 10 per group), bonded with self-adhesive resin cement (RelyX U200 or seT PP), and stored in distilled water at 37°C for 24 hours. SBS testing was performed using a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. Following the SBS test, fractured specimens were examined under a stereo microscope at 30× magnification. Statistical analysis was conducted using one-way ANOVA, followed by Tukeys post hoc test, using SPSS version 24.0. Results: Among all groups, the 50-AlO group exhibited the highest Ra and SBS, followed by the 95HF90 group, with both showing significant differences compared to the other groups (p<0.05). In the group bonded with RelyX U200, the 50-AlO and 95HF90 groups achieved higher SBS with mixed fractures, whereas for seT PP, All treatment groups displayed a significantly higher mean SBS than the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: The SBS and Ra values were affected by different surface treatment methods. In this study, the highest Ra values were observed in the 50-AlO group. Additionally, the findings indicate that combining 50-µm alumina sandblasting with RelyX U200 results in the highest SBS.
