Using Computer Programs to Help Detect the Reading of Words that are often Mispronounced in Thai to Promote Reading Skills for Elementary School Students
Abstract:
The objectives of this study were to 1) study the results of using a computer program to help detect the reading of words that are often mispronounced in Thai language to promote reading skills of elementary school students and 2) promote reading skills using a computer program to help detect the reading of words that were often mispronounced in Thai to promote reading skills of elementary school students. The sample group used in the study consisted of 42 Grade 3 students in Mueang Nakhon Sawan District school group, obtained by purposive sampling. Using 5 schools as the random unit. Instruments used in the study including 1. an online survey of words that were often mispronounced in Thai, 2. a recording form to collect audio data on reading Thai vocabulary words, 3. packaged program to analyze data, and 4. a satisfaction assessment form and guidelines for promoting skills. Statistics used to analyze data including percentage, mean, standard deviation, calculating the correlation coefficient, time series analysis.
The results of this study found that
1. Results of using a computer program to help detect the reading of words that were often mispronounced in Thai language of primary school students by calculating the correlation coefficient and time series analysis in overall the students' pronunciation of words that were often mispronounced in which similar to the original sound was 90.31 percent.
2. Guidelines for promoting reading skills by using computer programs to help detect the reading of words that were often mispronounced in Thai to promote reading skills of elementary school students with teachers and educational personnel. It was found that users had a high level of satisfaction and the guidelines for promoting reading skills in using the program was at a satisfaction level of 3.88 with high level.
