Abstract:
This research conducted in design and development of product for capability improvement of Osteoarthritis in elderly. The objectives were: 1. to study in problems and demands of elderly with Osteoarthritis and daily living; 2. to study and design the product for capability improvement for elderly who suffers from Osteoarthritis; 3. to study in elderlys satisfaction in the usage test and watching video of capability improvement for elderly who suffers from Osteoarthritis. The author has researched in related theory in the draft design for the concept of leg exercise consisting of 5 methods which were evaluated by the professional in exercise, prosthesis and orthosis, and occupational therapist. The conclusion from professional was method 4th: the posture of sweeping legs forward, which is most appropriate for building up muscle, the opinion was in high level ( x = 4.4, S.D.= 0.55). The best method was revised in accordance with the recommendations provided by professionals. Afterward, the author has conducted draft design of work by using design concept obtained from analysis comprising 4 patterns, their models were evaluated by professionals and the result was pattern 2nd: the concept derived from White Cheesewood, because of it was consistent and meaningful for elderlies and the opinion was in high level ( x = 4.18, S.D.= 0.47). The best pattern and entire information were employed in creating prototype and then evaluated in satisfaction by actually applying the prototype of product for capability improvement of Osteoarthritis in elderly with 10 elderlies. It was found that the overall opinion was in high level ( x = 4.25, S.D. = 0.50) and the overall opinion of 30 samples who watched the video and read manual was in high level ( x = 4.36, S.D. = 0.55).
