Competitive Strategy by Using SOAR Analysis: A Case of SP Company
Abstract:
The objective of this research were: 1) to analyze the competitive environment of SP Company; 2) to utilize the SOAR strategic model to develop sustainable competitive advantage strategies for SP Company; and 3) to establish initiatives for implementing the sustainable competitive advantage strategies for SP Company. A qualitative research approach was used. Key informants providing information on the competitive environment of SP Company included 50 engineers and technologists with extensive experience in PV technology and engineering. For the SOAR analysis and the development of sustainable competitive advantage strategies, key informants consisted of 10 senior managers and marketing personnel from SP Company, along with 5 government officials and energy sector representatives. The results indicated that: 1) SP Company operated in a competitive landscape driven by global carbon neutrality policies and the rise of photovoltaic power generation. Economic factors, including decreasing costs and China's influence, impacted the industry. SP Company leveraged technological advancements, faced supplier challenges, and competed with established players like Foster. Threats to entry involved technology and cost barriers, while customer bargaining power grew; 2) SP Company's sustainable strategies were comprised of leveraging technical expertise and R&D for leadership in photovoltaic film, optimizing costs, and maintaining strong supplier relationships for financial improvement. The company aimed to seize opportunities in the green energy transition and expand in the growing photovoltaic film market. Capitalizing on product demand and forging strategic partnerships were central to its sustainable development; 3) The initiatives outlined for implementing sustainable competitive advantage strategies for SP Company formed a strategic roadmap to position the organization as a leader in renewable energy. Evaluated based on consistency, suitability, feasibility, and usefulness, each initiative was meticulously crafted to address specific facets of operations. From leveraging technical expertise in photovoltaic film production to empowering R&D for innovation and streamlining cost optimization, the initiatives aimed for operational efficiency and sustained growth. Strengthening supplier relationships, accelerating the green energy transition, and strategically expanding market presence further enhanced SP Company's position. Proactive responses to demand, coupled with strategic partnerships, underscored a comprehensive approach for market leadership and sustained growth
