Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the characteristic of multiple curved light shelves in the university classroom. There were seven types of curved light shelves investigated in term of illuminance levels and uniformity. This study compiled the illumination values from different shading models using the DIALux 4.13 program, simulated at 8:00 am, 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 4:00 pm on Equinox (March 21st), summer solstice (June 21st) and winter solstice (December 21st). Following four orientations were investigated; north, south, east and west. All of the curved light shelves were installed inside the classroom with a size of 5m wide and 8m long with 3.5m high for testing the simulations, where the most optimal one was selected. Each of the simulations was calculated under clear sky conditions in Bangkok, Thailand. The model was installed for the four-orientation façade of the building. The best type of multiple curved light shelves was the model with double external curved light shelves, which provided a better result.
