Systematics of the superfamily coenagrionoidea (Odonata Zygoptera) larvae in Southern and Western Regions, Thailand

Abstract: Systematics of the superfamily Coenagrionoidea larvae were investigated in southern and western regions of Thailand. The larva and adult were collected from eighty-one sampling site from lotic and lentic habitats between April 2017 to November 2019. Last stadium larvae were taken back to the laboratory for rearing in earthenware pots until emerged to adults. Species identification was used base on the rearing and DNA barcoding method. Adults were identified at the species level. Last stadium larvae and adult were used to study molecular analysis base on COI. Selected specimens from the molecular study were measured for cladistic analysis. Distribution and ecology were explained using ordination and clustering analysis. Superfamily Coenagrionoidea species were distributed following the habitats. They inhabited in lotic or lentic habitats, as some species can live in both habitats. The cladistic analysis can indicate diagnostic larval morphology for separated between family Coenagrionidae and Platycnemididae. The COI tree cannot explain relationships within superfamily Coenagrionoidea. The genetic distance of partial COI was used to confirm species delimitation DNA barcoding gap range from 4.00% to 6.00%. The larva of eleven genera and twenty-four species were constructed identification key to genera including briefly larval description. Four undescribed larva species from genus Agriocnemis, Copera, and Pseudagrion were intensively described and illustrated in detail of morphology. They were compared with larvae of previously described congener species.
