Developing Academic Administration Guideline for Students and Teachers in Teaching Chinese Pronunciation for People Having Defective Speech Organs: A Case Study of Guangxi Vocational College

Abstract: The objectives of this research were: 1) to investigate needs and problems of teaching Chinese pronunciation for people having defective speech organs of students and teachers; and 2) to develop academic administration guidelines in teaching Chinese Pronunciation for people having defective speech organs for the students and teachers. The respondents in this research were 390 students and 252 teachers obtained through stratified random sampling at Guangxi Vocational College. The research instrument employed in this study was a questionnaire with 40 questions for 5 rating scales, quality of instrument evaluated for the Index of item-objective congruence scores by the five specialists. The information and data collected were analyzed through the quantitative research method and presented in terms of percentage, mean value, and standard deviation. The findings indicated that: 1) needs and problems of teaching Chinese pronunciation for people having defective speech organs of students and teachers, there were accepted for two "Middle" level problems, and all others were at "Low" level problems; 2) the academic administration guidelines in teaching Chinese pronunciation for people having defective speech organs for the students and teachers comprised of five units; namely, 1) combination of theory and practice, 2) happy teaching, 3) action-oriented, 4) enriched with teaching resources, 5) rationalize the teaching hours. All of the five units were evaluated by the 5 specialists and possessed the IOC values at 1.00 that meant the management guideline handbook was reliable and valid, and could be used as a management guideline handbook for students and teachers at Guangxi Vocational College
