Abstract:
This research aims to study the compositions in cafe of contemplation, a cafe that implements inner dimension learning process according to Contemplative Education into its business as well as study the inner dimension experiences of cafe's customers. This research focuses on the following essential aspects, namely physical environment and atmosphere of the cafe, activities in the cafe, and customers' inner learning experiences obtained from the cafe. This is a qualitative research that employs a Case Study methodology by using researcher's observation and unstructured interviews with 4 cafe owners and 7 customers from two selected cafes, Fathom Book Space and Little Tree Cafe, which are implementing contemplative activities in the cafe. The results show that there are 3 essences of learning cafe which has impacts on customers' inner learning. These essences are 1) inner qualities of cafe owners, 2) physical environment and atmosphere of cafe, and 3) activities in the cafe. Moreover, this research also finds that customers experienced inner transformation under the context of a cafe. Furthermore, the cafe has been creating a community for their inner learning. The customers experience the transformation in self-development, better relationships, connection to nature and surroundings. It can be clearly seen that these inner transformations are the transformations in accordance with Contemplative Education that enable ones to live a balanced life.
