Developing a solution to improve employability skills in Myanmar
Abstract:
Employability skills play a critical role in determining candidates success in the labor market, particularly in Myanmar's diverse industries. This study investigates the importance of key employability skills, such as communication, interpersonal, critical thinking, self-management, relationship-building, and technical literacy, across various sectors. A quantitative approach was employed, with data collected from 100 respondents in organizations of different sizes and industries. The findings reveal that skill importance varies by industry: communication and relationship skills are prioritized in service and sales sectors, while critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills are emphasized in technological and manufacturing industries. Identified skill gaps, especially in technical and digital literacy, highlight the need for targeted, scalable, and inclusive training programs. This study recommends a strategic, modular training framework designed to enhance employability skills, bridging the gap between workforce capabilities and industry demands. Such initiatives could significantly impact unemployment rates and foster stronger collaborations among businesses, NGOs, and educational institutions in Myanmars labor market.
