Abstract:
This research was studied the suitable condition for prevent pressure sores cushion
using natural rubber foam. Natural rubber foams were prepared with natural rubber latex with
various blowing agent ratio. Natural rubber latex and aluminium oleate (K-oleate) were used
as foam matrix and blowing agent, respectively. The effect of blowing agent ratio (1, 1.5, 2,
2.5 and 3 phr for NRFI, NRF1.5, NRF2, NRF2.5 and NRF3, respectively) on foam density
and mechanical properties were investigated using scanning electron microscope, compression
set test and hardness test. Natural rubber foam was successfully prepared. The closed cell type
foam was observed. Foam relative density and the compression set decreased with increasing
blowing agent ratio. The large cavities were observed inside foam structure when blowing
agent was added more than 2 phr. In addition, NRF1.5 showed highest hardness with
corresponding to foam cell size and foam density. Noteworthy, the total cost of raw materials
per kilogram was 2,864 baht. That is to say, extremely low cost prevent pressure sores cushion
can be completely prepared when comparing with the market price.
