The Development of an Instructional Model Based on Service Learning With Problem Based Learning to Enhance Problem-Solving Skill and The Awareness Towards the Environment for Students in an Environmental Impacted Area
Abstract:
The objectives of this research were; 1) to study the initial information in order to develop an instructional model. 2) to develop and find the efficiency of the instructional model. 3) to compare problemsolving skills of the students before and after learning using the instructional model. 4) to compare the students awareness toward the environment before and after learning using the instructional model. 5) to study the opinions of the students towards the instructional model. Sampling population was 26 students in grade 12 of the Science Math program of WeangKean Witthayakhom School in the first semester of the education year 2022 which was under the secondary education service area office Chiang Rai ; using the Purposive Random Sampling. Tools of the research were 1) instructional model based on service learning and problem-based learning. 2) Problem solving skills achievement survey 3) Environmental awareness aptitude survey. 4) Students opinion questionnaire towards the instructional model. Data analysis were the mean value, standard deviation, percentage and dependent T-test. The researcher found that: 1) The existing environmental problems in WeangKean District comprises of 2 parts; the pollutions of the environment, which were the residue of certain chemicals in the natural water and the deposition of soil settlement in the natural water resources. and the high level of impact of the environmental problems to the physical health of the people. 2) The instructional model, consists of 5 parts as follows; the overview, the objectives, the contents of the study, the process and procedure and the assessment and the evaluation. Overall evaluation was found to be in a level of high satisfaction. (average = 4.62) 3) The problem-solving skills of the students have a higher mean compared to before the study with a statistics significance of .01 and the overall assessment was found to be high level at 85.40%. 4) The environmental awareness of the students was found to have a statistics significance of 0.01 whereas the environmental awareness were at the highest at 90.80% 5) The overall opinion of the students who took part in the study was found to be at the highest level.
