Abstract:
This study aims to examine safety behavior and factors associated with safety behavior among basic professional practices of vocational students. The subjects were 420 diploma vocational students grade 1-2 from vocational schools affiliated with the office of vocational education commission. The data were collected using self-administered questionnaire, and examined by descriptive statistics and Spearman rank correlation. The results revealed that safety behavior among basic professional practices of diploma vocational students were at a high level (Mean = 30. 05, SD = 4. 81) . Factors associated with safety behavior among basic professional practices were safety climate (r = 0.492, p < 0.001), safety knowledge (r = 0.372, p < 0.001) and safety motivation (r = 0.496, p < 0.001) and factors disassociated with safety behavior among basic professional practices were gender (r = 0.028, p = 0.563) age (r = -0.024, p = 0.620) years of education (r = -0.040, p = 0.410) practice or classroom lesson in occupational health and safety subjects before basic professional practices ( r = 0.029, p = 0.551) , and past illness/injury experience from basic professional practices. (r = 0.031, p-value = 0.527) Based on result of this study, the comprehensive programs promoting safety climate, safety knowledge, and safety motivation should be performed to promote safety behavior during basic professional practices.
