Development of learning media in gold nanoparticles synthesis using au nano-synthesis kit
Abstract:
Gold is expensive element. The cost of gold leaf electrode is lower than gold electrode for synthesizing. The pencil Lead covered by gold leaf glued with Ficus racemosa Linn, was used as electrode. Au Nano-Synthesis Kit have effectively represented the learning media in electrochemical topics which were a low-cost, small, simple apparatus, and cost reduction in gold nanoparticles synthesis. The parameters for synthesizing gold nanoparticles were studied including the ascorbic acid concentration, CTAB volumns, potential, electrode distance and time, respectively. The results indicated that the optimum condition of gold nanoparticle was the 0.01 M ascorbic acid used as the reducing agent and 1.8 mL of 0.01 M CTAB as the stabilizer. The parameters of the synthesis were also studied and found the optimum conditions of 12.0 V applied voltage for 10 min. The colloidal gold nanoparticles were characterized by Tyndall effect and UV-visible spectrophotometry. The UV-visible spectrophotometric analysis showed the maximum absorbance wavelength (lambda max) of 525 nm. The 14 nm diameter and spherical particle shape of gold nanoparticles were characterized by Transmission electron microscope (TEM). Students satisfaction of Au Nano-Synthesis Kit activity was highest.
