The effect of student-associated game-based open inquiry (SAGOI) in functional group - organic chemistry learning on students' conceptual understanding, modeling performance progression and motivation chemistry
Abstract:
Chemistry learning faces various problems and barriers for students' understanding. As an abstract subject consisting of 3 levels of representation. Moreover, students could not distinguish and co-relate these 3 levels of representation in chemistry. Students' visualization and imagination skill still be another major problem. Many technologies could support students' visualization and imagination skills and end up with enhancing students' comprehensive in science learning and facilitating a powerful cognitive classroom. This study focuses on the effect of implemented digital game-based learning with the functional group in organic chemistry content on students' conceptual understanding, motivation toward chemistry and scientific modelling performance. A total of 61 students of grade 11 in Kuchinarai school, Kalasin Province were participated and were divided 2 groups. The Functional Group Games 1-4 combine with student-associated game-based open inquiry (SAGOI) was used for student in experimental group (EG) while traditional teaching will be used in a control group. The investigation summarizes that student in EG perform better conceptual understanding and motivation toward chemistry than student in CG. Furthermore, student who learned with educational game-based learning reveals the improvement of modelling performance by shift to higher in each dimension and apply to new content area.
