Abstract:
Antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibition activities of the essential oil hydrodistillated from the fresh rhizome of Curcuma rhabdota were investigated. L-ascorbic acid, ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), and kojic acid were used as positive controls for testing both of biological activities. The DPPH radical scavenging activities of the essential oil and L-ascorbic acid were insignificantly different. The hydroxyl radical and superoxide radical scavenging activities of the essential oil were significantly higher than those of L-ascorbic acid. The essential oil exhibited significantly weaker antioxidant activities through ferrous ion chelating and tyrosinase inhibiting activities as compared with EDTA and kojic acid, respectively.
