The Causal relationship of self-forgiveness and subjective well-being among undergraduate students in higher education institutions, Chiang Mai Province
Abstract:
The aims of this study were to 1) study level of self-compassion, self-esteem, social support, self-forgiveness and subjective well-being among undergraduate students in higher education institutions, Chiang Mai province; and 2) study the causal relationship of self-forgiveness and subjective well-being among undergraduate students in higher education institutions, Chiang Mai province. The sample consisted of 400 undergraduates both in government and private universities who were randomly selected by multi-stage sampling. Questionnaires were used as means of data collection. The study findings showed that 1) Overall, the students had high levels of self-esteem, social support, self-forgiveness, positive affect, life satisfaction and moderate levels of self-compassion and negative affect; 2) The model's overall fits were accepted; Chi-square statistics = 65.580 , df = 29, p-value = .000, RMSEA = .056, SRMR = .059, GFI = .980, AGFI = .910, CFI = .990, CN = 300.300 and all path coefficients were statistically significant at 0.05 levels. Furthermore, the results shown that self-compassion had the most effected on self-forgiveness (path coefficient = .55), inferior to self-esteem and social support (path coefficient = .19, and .13, respectively). Self-esteem had the most effected on subjective well-being (path coefficient = .30), inferior to self-compassion and social support (path coefficient = .28, and .17, respectively).
