Abstract:
The use of structured reflective writing and structured feedback has not been proved to be superior to the normal descriptive reflective writing and general feedback in helping student improve confidence level. The purpose of this experimental study was to compare between the structured reflective writing with structured feedback and the normal descriptive reflective writing with general feedback to increase the students' confidence level. Thirty-six nurse anesthetic students (NAS) of Siriraj Hospital were the target and sample population by matchingsampling. One group (N=18) received the structured reflective writing with structured feedback and another group (N=18) received the normal descriptive reflective writing with general feedback. The confidence level of the two groups were compared before the workshop, immediately after the workshop, and after the completion of 2 obstetric cases of general anesthesia. The repeated measured data analysis consisted of frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, paired t-test, and ANOVA. The results showed that there were changes in the scores of both groups between the 2nd and the 3rd confidence tests after the increased scores of the 1st confidence test for each question, but there was no significant difference between the groups in all questions. The writing reports of reflection demonstrated that the structured reflective questions could guide the participants to succeed in the depth of reflection more than the nonstructured reflective questions. Educators should include the structured reflection writing with structured feedback to guide the students towards achieving success in the depth of reflection for enhancing their confidence level.
