Abstract:
Urbanization has always been one of the most significant issues studied by many scholars. This concept is used to roughly describe the process of rural to urban evolution. However, with the development of concepts, different disciplines have different interpretations of urbanization. After the concept of urbanization entered China, terms such as townization and new-type urbanization were derived because of the unique conditions in China. As a comprehensive industry, tourism plays an important role in promoting the adjustment and optimization of industrial structure, improving material and cultural living standards, and promoting ecological and environmental protection.
Therefore, this thesis aims to study influence of tourism development in China on the newly emerged concept of urbanization, namely new-type urbanization, by conducting a qualitative analysis combining the urbanization case of Yunnan Province and the goals proposed in the New-type Urbanization Plan (2014-2020) in Yunnan Province and the tourism development data of Yunnan Province (2010-2019). This research verifies the impact of tourism-related functions on new-type urbanization in Yunnan Province. This study also illuminates and examines the relationships between tourism and urbanization across discipline and provides a guideline for sustainable development on new-type urbanization. This study will be beneficial as a source for some references for the study of advancement of urbanization in developing countries.
