Abstract:
The objectives of a study on Development of the body of knowledge in
Buddhist Education Sandbox are as follows: 1) to study the body of knowledge in
Buddhist Education Sandbox, 2) to create an activity set of the body of knowledge for
Buddhist Education Sandbox, and 3) to evaluate the activity set of the body of
knowledge for Buddhist Education Sandbox. The process of this qualitative research is
based activity research method. The samples used in the study were 300 students of
Faculty of Education and 42 key-informants who were expert in Buddhist Education
Sandbox. The research instruments consist of interview questions, evaluation form for
the activity set of the body of knowledge for Buddhist Education Sandbox. The data
were collected from documents, interviews, group discussion and evaluation form and
analyzed by content analysis and descriptive statistics. The activity set of the body of
knowledge for Buddhist Education Sandbox was evaluated by mean and standard
deviation.
The results of the study revealed that:
The body of knowledge for Buddhist Education Sandbox consists of 4
learning activities: 1) Sufficiency Buddhist based activity resulting to the worthiness in
using water resources and sustainability of food production, 2) Buddhist based learning
activity based on mindfulness in developing mental quality, strength and peacefulness,
and using wisdom as the base of right knowledge for potential in thinking and problem
solving wisely.
The area of Buddhist Education Sandbox and findings can be developed and
adjusted suitable to community having similar contexts in 5 steps:
1. Cooperation with the concerned and planning effective operation,
2. Study of problems and finding options with collaboration of community,
3. Development of basic factors influential to learning reform,
4. Curriculum development based on Buddhist based learning, and
5. Development of Buddhist Education Sandbox with a focus on integration
with learning foundations.
The results of activity set of the body of knowledge for Buddhist Education
Sandbox from 50 experts in total and in aspects were at the highest level. In details,
the highest level was on feasibility, followed by utility.
The innovation of Buddhist based learning is to implant, train and teach young
people according to the Buddhist methods with a focus on the Threefold Training
principles as the learning foundation through "How to eat, to live, to see and to listen"
in order to teach and train the young people to bring Buddhadhamma principles into
practice in their daily life and develop themselves to be good and smart in society
and to be able to life the life happily and peacefully according to the principles of
sufficiency economy philosophy.
