Abstract:
The objectives of the research study were to (1) design a model of teachers STEM education learning management competencies via open educational resources under office of the basic education commission, (2) develop the system of the proposed model, (3) assess the use of the above system via the competencies of teachers, and (4) study the opinion of teachers toward the model. The samples of the study were teachers under office of the basic education commission who were selected using Stratified Random Sampling by region. Then, four schools from four regions were selected by the purposive sampling method. Then, each teacher from each school was asked to design the learning managing plan following the model and tried out with 188 students from four schools through the designed system of Open Educational Resources. The data were analyzed using mean (x ̅) and standard deviation (S.D.).
The result were as follows:
A model of teachers STEM education competencies via open educational resources under office of the basic education admission can be divided into three main components (1) open educational resources which were the resources for developing the teacher STEM education competencies, (2) the development of teacher learning management competencies in order to enable teachers to collaboratively design and create a STEM learning management plan with activities that would cause active learning, thought challenging, real life problem integration, and create the 21st century skills. After that, teachers and experts would collaboratively assess and discuss the learning management plan. The experts would provide the first evaluation of the learning management competency from the learning management plan in order for the teacher to manage the whole learning in the classroom. The teachers would discuss and elaborate the knowledge after the learning management. The expert would provide the second evaluation of the learning management competencies. The processes of developing the learning management competencies were important for helping teachers to create the learning management plan with interesting activities and benefiting to the diary lives of students following the direction of STEM education, and (3) the results of the development of teachers learning management competencies and the teachers' opinions on the model of learning management competencies would be the feedback or suggestions for developing the teacher learning management competencies.
The system of STEM education competencies development for teachers was developed following the model using the Open Educational Resource system which composed of three main parts: (1) knowledge resources which consists knowledge of learning management competencies, STEM education, learning management of STEM education, engineering design process, measurement and evaluation, and knowledge of the 21st century skills (2) activities of creating a learning management plan, and (3) discussion board. All three parts were evaluated with the highest level of appropriateness.
The use of the above system toward the STEM education competencies of teachers via the Open Educational Resources system was found that teacher had competencies in designing the learning management plan by assigning the learning objectives, activities, and evaluation. They could provide activities for students to share ideas in order to create challenge and integrate knowledge of each subject with the real-life experience. The teacher introduced the lesson with activities, questions, and explanations to motivate the interests. They also supported the students thought of challenge, use of information technology media to increase knowledge, skills, and brought up to the conclusion of knowledge and sharing understanding. Teacher also evaluate the students knowledge, skills, and competencies in applying knowledge suited to the learning objectives.
The opinion of teachers toward the model was found that (1) open educational resources were very appropriate. The content was accurate and accessible and (2) learning management were appropriate in: timely for teacher toacquire knowledge, timely in learning management for students, design collaboration, evaluation creating, and discussion of learning management plan including learning collaboration activities
